Ultrasound should be an integral part of the practice of urology. Ultrasound performed by the urologist facilitates clinical decision making. However, there has been little formal training available in ultrasound indications, technique and documentation for residents or practicing urologists. Training needs to be available for urologists so they can perform abdominal ultrasonography safely and accurately. Urologists who independently perform and interpret ultrasound will benefit from specific instruction in the indications for and performance of specific abdominal and pelvic applications. These unique hands-on skills training courses for urologic robotic surgery are designed to give the urologist a basic understanding of the specific skills necessary to perform key urologic robotic surgery techniques. Ureteroscopy for the treatment of urolithiasis is an integral part of every urologist's clinical practice. Therapeutic flexible ureteroscopy, as opposed to semirigid ureteroscopy, due to equipment cost, fragility and the more challenging technical aspects, remains outside the scope of some urologists. The introduction of smaller, more robust flexible ureteroscopes, capable of visualizing the entire collecting system, has highlighted the need to train all urologists allowing them to add flexible ureteroscopy to their therapeutic armamentarium. With the array of flexible ureteroscope and working instruments available on the market, there is a need to critically compare these tools and provide urologists with the best available data, so that safe flexible ureteroscopy can be incorporated into the clinical practice of all urologists. Participants will learn and practice on models available, techniques for accessing the ureter and pelvicalyceal system. Participants will practice capturing, relocating, and releasing stones in the models with various stone baskets and then fragmenting them.

Objectives: After attending this course, participants should be able to:

• review the variety of flexible ureteroscopes and working instruments on the market, their differences in construction, performance and safe usage
• understand the possible complications associated with flexible ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy, and learn how to avoid and treat them
• access the upper tract with minimal trauma and utilize techniques to maximize visibility while protecting against high intrarenal pressures
• integrate the techniques of stone capture, relocation and fragmentation, using a Holmium laser, into clinical practice
• appreciate the various catheters, guidewires and instruments available for safe and effective ureteroscopy for renal stones

Ultrasound evaluation of the male genitalia is an integral part of urologic practice. Ultrasound performed by the urologist provides optimum patient care and facilitates clinical decision making. This course will provide a structured approach to the ultrasound evaluation of the scrotum and penis. Indications for male genital ultrasound together with scanning technique, protocols and documentation will be addressed. The basics of normal ultrasound anatomy will be reviewed and contrasted with ultrasound findings commonly encountered by the practicing urologist. Color doppler ultrasound evaluation of scrotal varicoceles in male fertility evaluation and cavernosal vessels for evaluation of erectile dysfunction will be included. Real time video examples will be utilized whenever possible to demonstrate imaging technique and the evolving nature of the ultrasound examination. The course will include a didactic presentation and “Hands-On” training in which the participants will practice scanning protocols on live models guided by an experienced sonographer. The didactic component of the course includes case-based discussions on the use of ultrasound in evaluation of incontinence, slings, pelvic organ prolapse, synthetic meshes and complex voiding dysfunction. The use of a variety of kits and novel and minimally invasive approaches is common in female urologic surgery and represents a high growth area in the field. This hands-on course in female pelvic surgery will help the surgeon to better understand how to place devices that are commonly used in female urology. During the course a variety of modalities including surgical videos, inanimate and interactive models and laparoscopic or robotic trainers will be used to achieve this goal.

Objectives: After attending this course, participants should be able to:

• demonstrate proper techniques for vaginal surgery for urinary incontinence therapy (slings)
• demonstrate proper anatomical fixation points for prolapse surgery as they relate to newer techniques and robotic surgery as well
• understand how to manage the complications of vaginal surgery for slings and prolapse repairs
• describe how to perform vaginal sling surgery in the different formats (TOT, retropubic and mini-sling)
• practice robotic simulation so as to understand its role in pelvic reconstructive surgery

This hands-on course is an intensive update and review of modern technology in basic and advanced transurethral surgical debulking techniques to treat BPH. The course will focus on four (4) minimally invasive alternatives to traditional transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) currently available. These include high power 532 nm laser photoselective laser vaporization of the prostate (PVP), holmium laser enucleation/ablation of the prostate (HoLEP/HoLAP), Bipolar Electrovaporization of the Prostate (Bipolar EVP/Bipolar TURP), transurethral suture tacking of prostatic urethral lobes. The course will provide 1 hour of didactic lectures on physiology of laser therapy and electrosurgical principles of both monopolar and bipolar techniques. In addition, methodology of the three approaches as well as basic and advanced concepts necessary to effect optimal surgical results will be discussed. A new minimally invasive prostatic urethral lift procedure will also be reviewed. Introduction and hands-on in vitro experience with instrumentation is provided in a 2 hour didactic laboratory based on participant’s experience with each technology.

Objectives: After attending this course, participants should be able to:

• Understand basic electrosurgical and laser physics principles as well as mechanism of action of debulking prostate tissue.
• Obtain basic and advanced instrumentation knowledge of equipment, setup, patient preparation, anesthetic requirements, and site specific issues involved with each technology
• Understand and comprehend the evaluation, selection and counseling for each technology and the advantages and limitations of each technology
• Obtains hands on basic tips with instrumentation of each technology as well as experience with currently available in vitro training models and simulators as well as incorporate into their knowledge base the tips and tricks with each technology via video case presentation by the experts.
• Comprehend how to approach first cases, identify surgical landmarks, manage complex cases and assess for treatment high risk cases such as anticoagulated patients, and large glands as well as analyzing and reviewing current published literature and clinical experience and outcomes related to each technology.

This course is aimed at urologists and allied health professionals interested in learning basic office urodynamics using a combined didactic and hands-on lab experience. The commonly used urodynamic studies will be explained: what is being measured, how it is measured, and how it is interpreted. Uroflow, cystometrogram (CMG), pressure flow and leak point pressure studies will all be discussed. The presentations will correlate the use of these techniques to common medical and clinical conditions: neurogenic conditions, stress and urge incontinence, obstructive symptoms, incontinence after prostatectomy, and pediatric incontinence. The course concentrates on a select group of urodynamic tests at each of the urodynamic stations with practical review of a select group of urodynamics cases and tracings and practical hands on experience with urodynamics equipment.

Objectives: After attending this course, participants should be able to:

• integrate the principles behind organizing a urodynamic laboratory and the associated billing codes
• interpret the typical normal and abnormal findings of office-based urodynamics and the routinely encountered artifacts
• describe the proper methods of setting up the urodynamics equipment for performing a CMG, pressure-flow study, and leak point pressures
• identify the strengths and weaknesses of basic office urodynamic tests and how to use them to maximize the strengths while avoiding the weaknesses
• interpret and discuss urodynamic tests and results with patients and colleagues, and use the results to develop treatment options and long-term patient management plans

Laparoscopy requires a skill set fundamentally different from traditional, open surgery. Dry-lab training is necessary before the human patient encounter, but many urologists have had difficulty identifying a structured program to allow them to advance their skills. This course will introduce participants to a validated model for laparoscopic skills training that has been used to train over 5,000 surgeons. The urologic community has continued to advance the applications of laparoscopic surgery in our field. Unfortunately, while the experts in laparoscopy further their abilities and apply their skills to increasingly complex procedures, many urologists in communities without applied laparoscopy perceive an enlarging gap between these experts and themselves. While it is not the expectation that participation will yield an "expert" status in laparoscopic ability, it will lay the groundwork for future independent skills acquisition towards this goal.

Objectives: After attending this course, participants should be able to:

• develop a validated curriculum for laparoscopic skills training and utilize resources for continued future training
• apply skills attained from basic tasks to laparoscopic suturing
• construct a personalized plan for skills training for future independent advancement
