Protein helps you build and maintain muscle, but it can be difficult to make sure you are eating enough. Here are five suggestions to help you round-out your diet.
Not only a breakfast food, eggs are also a great snack or addition to a salad. You can hard boil many eggs at once and save them in the fridge to eat over several days. It is recommended to wait to peel the eggs until you are actually ready to consume them, so just stick them in a plastic container in the fridge, peel and all. Then when you are ready, remove the shell and they are good to go. Add them on top of lettuce with some cheese for a filling salad, or eat the egg whole with a small amount of salt for flavor.
2. Cottage Cheese
Low-fat cottage cheese is a great quick snack because you can just grab the container out of the fridge and eat away without any additional effort. You can add pieces of fruit such as peaches to enhance your snacking experience.
3. Frozen Chicken Breasts
A good bag of commercial frozen chicken breasts on-hand allows for a variety of meal combinations. You can have sandwiches, make pasta, or have a simple meal of chicken and vegetables.
4. Peanut Butter
A spoonful of peanut butter along with pieces of celery or apples is one way to keep you going throughout an afternoon. Don’t be afraid to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich either, but remember to choose healthy whole wheat bread.
5. Chocolate Milk
A glass of chocolate milk is a treat that should not be had every day, but it does indeed contain a healthy amount of vitamins and nutrients. Some people even drink chocolate milk after a workout – just make sure to only reward yourself occasionally.
