Anabolic steroids that are chemically related to testosterone. There are over 100 different varieties of them but only a few have been approved for veterinary or human use. Many of them are illegal and are smuggled in countries. There is a black market for them. They are used  by people to enhance their competitiveness in sports and or to alter their physical appearance.

There are different methods of using steroids. They are are more often used through injection. there are also gel tablets and pills that can be taken by mouth or cream that are to be rubbed onto the skin. Some people use them during a single occurrence while others use them for a longer period time which can be known as stacking, pyramiding, or cycling.

There are physical effects to taking anabolic steroids. The person could have a deepening of the voice, enlargement of male sex glands, and increased facial hair. The person can also increase his or her muscle mass, calcium in the bones, and internal organs.

There are short term and long term effects to taking the drug. In the short term for men the person may have impotence, reduced sperm count, difficulty urinating and a damaged heart. In the long term the person may get liver disease, shrinking of testicles, and breasts. For women the person may have reduced breasts and excessive hair growth. In the long term they may have a deepened voice, abnormal menstrual cycles, and enlarged clitoris. In both men and women in the short term they may get acne, headaches, improved appetite, swelling of feet and ankles, insomnia, and more. In the long term they have have blood clotting difficulties, clotting disorders, increase in muscle size, stunted growth in teens, heart attacks, and more.

As far as whether the drug is addictive, each person may feel differently than others when stopping use of the drug. They may experience a number of different symptoms or a few, they might experience mood swings, loss of appetite, fatigue, depression, insomnia, or a wanting to take more steroids. Addiction may not be as strong if you were taking a different drug like heroin but it still can be addicting because people have experienced a tolerance and dependence on them.

So as you can see this type of drug is something that can be harmful to your body so you want to weigh the pros and cons before taking them.
